Introduction

This park’s name comes from the path that herds of buffalo took in their migration across the area. Later, the earliest settlers used this path as a wagon trail into the frontier.

The land that is now Buffalo Trace Park was deeded to the Town of Palmyra for the express purpose of using it as a park. The Town entered into a 50 year lease agreement with the Harrison County Parks to operate Buffalo Trace Park.
